Effed Forever

This one really hurts. Even more than in 2016. I am numb and angry. I really thought Kamala had this. Sure, maybe the Dems would lose the Senate and not get the House back, but at the least, she’d be the president and he’d be gone forever, maybe even to jail. But thanks to dark money, lies, billionaires, the media, and the lazy and moronic US voters, we are headed into the darkest time in American history.
I am so devastated that I cannot read the news, view CNN and MSNBC, nor watch late-night comedy shows. I canceled my online subscription to the NY Times and headline feeds from the Washington Post and Philadelphia Inquirer. I do have a subscription to the San Francisco Chronicle, but I have to physically go to their site instead of receiving headlines via email. I am done with politics, at least for now, but maybe forever. I’ve lost family, friends and faith in the system over this. I just can’t stand to read or hear about what is coming. I even have two books out from the library (Anthony Fauci’s and Bob Woodward’s) that I will now just return because I would just become angrier after reading them.
I really feel that we are in the early stages of 1930s Germany. He will have total power, due to the Supreme Court and the fact that the House and Senate will be run by the repugnicans. There is no way for the Dems to stop any legislation for the next two years. The ACA will be voted out of existence, there will be cuts to SS and Medicare, and abortion will be outlawed everywhere. And this is just for starters.
Dark-skinned minorities will be attacked and deported. (White ones like Musk, Murdoch, Melania and Thiel are okay!) The Washington Post and LA Times are owned by billionaires who now determine the content of the papers. Faux News will just become bigger, while CNN and MSNBC will become more conservative or maybe even regulated out of existence. He will go after the late-night comedy hosts, whose shows could be muzzled by their corporate network owners. Russia will take over Ukraine, Netanyahu will level Gaza, and NATO could possibly fall apart.
Here are some pathetic numbers:
Number of Americans: 336 million
Eligible US Voters: 244 million
Registered US Voters: 161 million
Voters on 11/5: 139 million (this means 22 million registered didn’t bother to vote)
Votes for him: 72 million (in 2020, 74 million)
Votes for her: 67 million (in 2020, Biden got 81 million)
This means that 16 million total fewer votes were cast this year as opposed to in 2020. Out of the total population, he was elected by about 23% of the population. Talk about minority rule!
It’s impossible to know how many voters were kicked off the rolls or how many were too scared to vote. But certainly not 16 million.
I don’t believe that she was a flawed candidate. Sure, she took over the role only in late July, but she ran a good campaign, with issues, optimism and determination. But Americans are still not ready to elect a woman, let alone a Black one from California. So much so, that 16 million stayed home or didn’t even bother to send in an absentee ballot.
Instead, the idiot electorate chose a 78-year-old lying, unstable, twice-impeached, convicted felon and sexual abuser to the highest office in the land. They voted in favor of tariffs, deportations, and hate. They voted against civil rights, vaccines, a woman’s right to choose, and global warming. January 6th insurrectionists will be pardoned and freed from prison, ready to go back to their various hate groups. And even if he dies, we’ll be stuck with a smarter, scarier, and much younger version of him until 2028.
Tragically, he will never be held accountable for the events on January 6th, the attempts to rig the vote in Georgia, for stealing classified documents, or anything else, thanks to the SCOTUS and to all the delays his lawyers were able to get. And, if you think the judge in the NY criminal case is going to risk his life and livelihood by sentencing him to jail in two weeks, I’ve got a bridge I’d like to sell to you!
Personally, I am not worried much about myself. I live in a blue state and in one of the most progressive areas of the country. At 70-years-old I have enough savings, I now get Social Security, and I am still working full-time. I have health insurance, along with zero debt. I am childless, so I have no offspring to worry about. I will now focus more time on playing music with my wife Claudia, watching fictionalized series on cable, playing with my cats, reading biographies of artists and musicians, doing crossword puzzles, and walking 2-3 miles a day. Feel free to let me know if there is ever any positive news happening.
Heck, in the next election, maybe I will vote the way most of the country does – by watching TV ads and reading yard signs!
But to everyone else? All I can say is, good luck. You are going to need it, and it is going to be extremely hard to come by starting in January of 2025.
Because we are effed forever…
